Ganttry vs Powerproject

Powerproject — formerly Asta Powerproject, now sold by Eleco — earned its reputation on real jobsites: decades of construction-first CPM, progress-line workflows, and professional planners who swear by it, especially in the UK and Europe. Ganttry doesn't out-rank that pedigree; it changes the economics. The same CPM fundamentals, live in a browser for the whole crew, at $20/user/month — instead of a $1,320-a-year Windows seat (US price via Catalyst USA, Eleco's distributor).

PRICE PER SEAT, PER YEAR
$200 vs $1,320 /user/yr

Ganttry's annual plan vs the Powerproject single-user subscription via Catalyst USA, Eleco's US distributor. Even paying monthly ($240/yr), the gap is about 5.5×.

WHERE IT RUNS
Browser vs Windows

Ganttry runs on Mac, Windows or the iPad in the truck — nothing to install. Powerproject is a Windows desktop app; sharing schedules live means adding Eleco server or cloud products.

THE FIELD CREW
Included vs add-on

Ganttry crews update progress from phones on the normal seat — installable app, My Tasks, calendar. Powerproject's Site Progress Mobile is a separate paid add-on, priced per job.

What Powerproject actually costs

In the US you buy Powerproject through Catalyst USA, Eleco's official distributor, and billing is annual everywhere official — there is no monthly option. As of July 2026 the published numbers look like this; concurrent SaaS and the Vision portfolio layer are quote-only.

THE STANDARD SEAT
Single-user subscription
$1,320 /user/yr via Catalyst USA

One named user, one year at a time. UK buyers pay £1,470/yr on Eleco's own store — annual billing only, auto-renews, 60-day cancellation notice.

Concurrent license
$2,200 /yr via Catalyst USA

A floating license the whole office can share — one user at a time. A genuine option Ganttry doesn't offer; larger concurrent and SaaS deals are quote-only.

BIM edition & add-ons
$2,345+ /user/yr, approx.

The 4D BIM edition costs materially more (roughly $2,345+ US). Site Progress Mobile field capture runs about $205 per job per year through resellers — reseller figures, not official list prices.

The per-seat math, per year

A Powerproject seat is $1,320 a year before the BIM edition or the per-job field add-on. A Ganttry seat is $200 — and the foreman's seat costs the same as the planner's, so the whole crew lives in the live schedule instead of a printout. That's how a ten-person job ends up more than $11,000 apart, every year.

Ganttry annual plan ($200/user/yr) vs Powerproject single-user subscription ($1,320/yr via Catalyst USA). Powerproject's $2,200/yr concurrent license can stretch across rotating users — one at a time per license.

Where Powerproject still wins

Construction-planner depth. Progress-line workflows and construction-focused views refined over decades — it's the tool professional planners, especially in the UK and Europe, reach for first.
4D BIM planning. The (pricier) BIM edition links schedule activities to the building model — Ganttry has no 4D story at all.
Concurrent licensing. One $2,200/yr floating license can serve a rotating cast of occasional planners; every Ganttry user needs a seat.
File exchange both ways. Powerproject imports and exports both MS Project and P6 formats. Ganttry reads XER but writes only MS Project XML — no XER export.
Free read-only viewer. ProjectViewer lets owners and subs open schedules without a license; in Ganttry a stakeholder is a paid seat or a PDF.

Where Ganttry pulls ahead

A fraction of the price. $200/user/yr vs $1,320 — every feature on every seat, no editions, no add-ons, volume pricing from 50 seats.
One live schedule, whole crew. Presence, live selections, conflict-safe saves and per-author revision history with rollback — built in, not a separate server product.
The field is included. Crews status their own tasks from phones via an installable app on the normal seat — no per-job add-on to license.
Any OS, no installs. Mac on the laptop, Windows in the office, iPad in the truck — it's a browser tab, patched for you.
DCMA health checks built in. A 13-point schedule-quality audit with editable thresholds and a submittal-ready PDF, on every seat.
Self-serve everything. Published price, card checkout, monthly billing if you want it, cancel anytime — no distributor call, no 60-day cancellation-notice window.

Moving is an XML export away

Powerproject speaks MS Project formats natively — export your schedule as MS Project XML, drop it into Ganttry, and the dependencies, calendars and structure come with it. (Coming from spreadsheets instead? CSV/Excel import has mapping presets.) Monthly updates re-import in place without touching your notes and colors. And when someone upstream insists on Powerproject or Project, export MS Project XML back — they can open it directly.
