Ganttry vs Smartsheet

Smartsheet is a genuinely excellent work-management platform — a flexible grid with forms, automations and dashboards that much of the construction industry already touches somewhere. What it isn't is a CPM scheduling engine. Ganttry is only that: constraints, float, per-task calendars, named baselines and data-date statusing, at $20/user/month with every feature on every seat.

PRICE AT THE COMPARABLE TIER
$20 vs $19 /user/mo

Smartsheet Pro is $9 — but per Smartsheet's pricing grid, baselines start at Business ($19, 3-member minimum). At that tier the money is nearly identical; the engines aren't.

THE REAL DIFFERENCE
Engine vs view

Smartsheet's critical path is a highlight on a Gantt view — no float columns, no constraint types, no data date. Ganttry runs a full forward/backward pass you can interrogate.

YOUR SCHEDULE FILES
Opens XER & XML

Ganttry imports Primavera P6 XER and MS Project XML — dependencies and calendars come through, and re-imports update in place. Smartsheet's own docs warn MS Project constraints are unsupported on import — and it can't open an XER at all.

What Smartsheet actually costs

Smartsheet's published tiers are honest and self-serve — no reseller maze here. The catch is which tier your scheduling features land in, and the resource-management add-on that isn't included in any of them. Prices below are billed-yearly rates as of July 2026.

Pro
$9 /member/mo, billed yearly ($12 monthly)

Gantt view, dependencies with lag/lead and critical-path highlighting — a real bargain, but hard-capped at 10 members, no baselines per the pricing grid, no external Guests, automations capped at 250/month.

WHERE BASELINES LIVE
Business
$19 /member/mo, billed yearly ($24 monthly)

Adds baselines, Timeline view, unlimited automations and genuinely generous sharing: unlimited free Guests (external, can edit) and Contributors (view/comment). 3-member minimum — the real floor is $57/mo, and internal editors always need paid seats.

Enterprise & Advanced Work Management
Quote-only Enterprise: 10+ members

Talk-to-sales territory. And on every tier, full resource management is Resource Management by Smartsheet — a separately priced add-on; Business and above include only lighter workload tracking.

Feature for feature

Compared against Smartsheet Business — the tier with baselines, and the one a scheduling team would actually buy. Green means it's included at the tool's quoted per-seat price.

Comparison against Smartsheet's published pricing grid and Help Center documentation, July 2026. Where Smartsheet is the stronger tool, the table says so.

The per-seat math — closer than you'd think

We won't pretend there's a dramatic savings story here: a 5-person team pays $1,140/yr on Smartsheet Business and $1,000/yr on Ganttry. The question isn't the sticker — it's what the dollars buy. On Smartsheet that money buys a work-management platform with a Gantt view. On Ganttry it buys a CPM engine: float, constraints, five baselines, data-date statusing and DCMA checks, on every seat.

Ganttry annual plan ($200/user/yr) vs Business billed yearly ($19 × 12). Business carries a 3-member minimum, and full resource management is a quote-priced add-on on top — the real Smartsheet total tends to grow from here.

Where Smartsheet still wins

It's far more than scheduling. A flexible grid, forms, automations, reports and dashboards — if you need one platform for RFI logs, punch lists and submittal tracking too, Smartsheet does all of it and Ganttry does none of it.
Free sharing is genuinely generous. Unlimited viewers and commenters cost nothing, and on Business, external Guests can even edit for free. On Ganttry, every seat is a paid seat.
Cheaper entry. If 10 members is enough and you can live without baselines, Pro at $9/member undercuts Ganttry at $20/user.
Everyone already has it. The install base is enormous — there's a fair chance your GC or owner already runs Smartsheet, and shared sheets just work.

Where Ganttry pulls ahead

A real CPM engine. Four constraint types, forward/backward pass, float you can sort and filter, negative float in red — not a highlight on a Gantt view.
Baselines that hold up in a claim. Five named baselines with variance columns in working days, MS Project sign convention — plus a monthly data-date statusing workflow with retained logic and out-of-sequence flags.
Calendars that match the job. Per-task working calendars — 6-day paving crews, 4×10 weeks, winter shutdowns. Smartsheet's working days are one setting per sheet.
DCMA checks and S-curves built in. A 13-point schedule-health audit with a submittal-ready PDF, cost loading and cash-flow S-curves — no dashboard assembly required.
Opens what owners send. Ganttry imports Primavera P6 XER and MS Project XML — dependencies and calendars come through, and re-imports update in place.

Moving is an import, not a rebuild

Export your Smartsheet project to Excel and drop it into Ganttry — the CSV/Excel importer has mapping presets, and re-imports update in place. If the schedule originally came from MS Project or P6, skip the middleman and import the XML or XER directly. Either way you keep talking to the Smartsheet world: Ganttry exports styled Excel, CSV, vector PDF and MS Project XML.
