Questions and answers
Short answers to the questions people ask most about Ganttry, each with a link to the page that explains more.
I removed a dropdown option — why do old tasks still show it?
Removing an option from a Dropdown list column changes only the list you pick from: tasks that already used it keep showing it until you edit them.
Ganttry asked me to reload — why?
A newer version of Ganttry has saved this project, and your tab is still running the older version. When it opens a project the newer version has saved, or tries to save over one, it stops with "This project needs a newer app version" and a Reload button, and the message can't be dismissed, because the older version would drop details it doesn't know about. Reloading loses any changes in that tab that haven't saved yet. If you see "This server is running a newer app version than this tab loaded" instead, Continue anyway lets you carry on, but reload before you make changes you don't want to risk losing. How saving works: Saving, history and opening projects.
My webhook address is refused.
Ganttry sends webhooks only to a public address that starts with http:// or https://. A URL that points to a private or local network address is refused with "Enter a public webhook URL. This one points to a private or local network address." Ganttry doesn't follow redirects either — a delivery that gets one counts as failed — so give your receiver's final URL. See Integrations: webhooks and the read-only API.
What happens to our data if we cancel?
When your company's subscription is canceled, its data stays for at least 60 days; in the words of the Terms, "your schedules remain available for 60 days so you can take copies, then they are deleted". Your company admins get a reminder by email a week before the deletion date, so export anything you need then. To keep the company, reply to that reminder and the deletion is put on hold; buying again on the website starts a separate, empty company. See Licenses and billing.
Can I open an .mpp file?
Not directly: an .mpp file is Microsoft Project's own closed format. In Microsoft Project, save the project as XML (File → Save As → XML), then bring that file in with File ▾ → Import file…: tasks, links, deadlines, progress and calendars come across, and so do four constraint types (must start on, start no earlier than, must finish on, finish no later than); the others are skipped with a warning. See Importing a project.
Do imported MS Project calendars keep their hours?
Every calendar takes the file's project-wide hours per day, not hours of its own. The project calendar comes across with its working weekdays and its holidays (non-working exception days). So does each task calendar at least one task uses, as a named calendar; extra working days, and anything a calendar inherits from a base calendar, are not imported. At most 20 task calendars import — tasks on the others use the project calendar, and the import warns you. See Importing a project.
Why can't some people see costs?
People with the Field role see their projects read-only with the money side taken out — task costs, contract time and the dollar totals in the schedule update narrative — while still reporting progress. Crew links never show costs either. An Editor or Admin sees them; see Who can see and do what.
Who can publish the plan?
Anyone with the Master planning capability. Company admins have it by role, and a company admin can grant it to other members (not a Field-only account) on Company › Users & access, in the Master planning card; it also opens the master plan and People, which both have Publish…. See Who can see and do what and Draft and Publish.
How do crew members see their work without an account?
Send them a crew link. In the project's Share… dialog, under Crew links, choose the dates it shows and when it expires, check the Preview, then Create crew link; the crew opens it on a phone with no sign-in. It shows the plan crews were last published — or the live plan, if the project isn't a Draft — with task names, dates, status, crew, equipment and tools, and never costs. For one person across all their projects, a company admin makes an itinerary link instead; see Crew links and itineraries.
How do I change my name or email?
Open your avatar menu and choose Profile…: a new name saves at once. A new email asks for your current password, then mails a confirmation link to the new address, and nothing changes until you press Confirm new email on the page that link opens. A company admin can also correct your name or email with Edit… in the Users table. See Your account.
I forgot my password.
Click Forgot password? on the sign-in page and enter your email to get a link that sets a new one. If no email comes, ask a company admin: they can make you a reset link, which works for one hour, from Company › Users & access. Setting a new password makes any earlier invitation or reset link stop working. See Your account.
How big a project can Ganttry handle?
Projects of several thousand tasks: the grid draws only the rows on screen and the Gantt only the bars in view, so a 3,000-activity P6 import edits as fast as a 50-task project. The public demo is the exception — adding, pasting or importing tasks there stops once a project has 60. See Importing a project.
Does Ganttry work on a phone?
Yes. On a phone a bottom bar switches between the main views — Home · Schedule · Projects · Work · Calendar, or My tasks · Work · Calendar for a Field user — the editor shows the grid or the chart one at a time, and the larger dialogs open full screen. The work pages also offer Install app so Ganttry opens from your home screen, and the master plan needs a wider screen: it won't edit at 780 px or narrower. See On phones and tablets.
