Company columns
Columns your company defines once — a name, a type and its choices — that planners add to any project, and that crews see in the field.
Company columns are column definitions your company keeps in one list, so every project can use the same ones — a Supplies column, an Inspection checkbox, a Trade dropdown. The company sets each column's name, type and choices once; the values planners type stay in each project.
Where to find it
- To manage the list: open Company from the sidebar, go to Standards, and find the Company columns card. It reads: "Column definitions your planners can add to any project. The values typed in a project stay in that project." Manage… opens the list. See The Company page.
- To use one in a project: right-click any column header in the grid → Add or show columns…, and look under Add from company library.
The company's list
Each definition has a name and one of the four custom column types — text, checkbox, dropdown list (with its options) or symbols. The type and a dropdown's options are set when the column is added; after that, the type can't change, and the name can be changed with Rename….
Retire takes a column off the list for new projects, and Restore puts it back. The dialog's banner says what that means: "Adding a definition to a project copies it. Renaming or retiring it here does not change projects that already use it."
A new company's card is empty and offers Add the Supplies column — a text column for the materials a crew needs on site.
Adding one to a project
In Add or show columns…, the Add from company library section lists the company's active columns, filtered by the same search box as the rest. Adding one copies the definition into the project's own columns, where it is tagged Company library. The values live in the project itself, so retiring the company column later only stops it being offered — it never hides anything already typed.
If the list can't load, the section says "Couldn't load the company library — reopen to retry."
What crews see
A company column that is text or a dropdown list also shows in the task details a crew opens in the field, as a read-only line under the dates, labeled with the column's name — for example Supplies 2 pallets 5/8" ply, 40 bags mix. See Work, My tasks and the calendar.
The name is the company's; the values are whatever the planner typed. Rename or retire the company column and the line stops appearing the next time the crew's view loads. A column made only for one project — never added from the company library — is not shown to crews on screen.
Who can use it
A company admin manages the list on the Company page. Admins and Editors add company columns to the projects they edit. See Who can see and do what.
Good to know
- A company can have up to 100 company columns ("The company column list is full (100)"). Names are 1 to 60 characters, and a name already on the list — even with different capitals — is refused ("That column definition is already on the list").
- Keeping a project-only column off the crew's screen is a matter of display, not security: a Field account still receives the project's columns. Don't use a column to keep information from your crews.
- A project template keeps whatever columns its source project had, company columns included, like any other column. See Project types and project templates.
- To add a column just for one project, use Add column at the foot of the same picker — see Editing in the grid.
