Company calendar standards
Calendar standards are the company's own work calendars, which new projects copy and existing projects can adopt.
A calendar standard is one of your company's own work calendars — its working week, hours per day, annual holidays and yearly shutdowns — kept once so every new project starts from the same pattern. The card says it plainly: "Work calendars a new project can start from. Changing one here never changes a saved project."
Where to find it
On the Company page, open Standards: the Calendar standards card lists up to three active standards — each with its name, a Default tag on the default one, and a count of its holidays and shutdowns — and "+N more" when there are others. Manage… opens the Calendar standards dialog with the full list.
What a standard holds
A standard is a whole working calendar: which weekdays are worked, hours per day, and its non-working days. How project calendars behave in the schedule is explained in Scheduling.
A new project copies the company's Default standard when it is created — unless it starts from a project template that brings its own calendar. The copy is a one-time snapshot: the project keeps no link to the standard it came from, so editing or retiring the standard later never touches a project that already exists.
Adding standards
- Start with two. A company with no standards yet sees Add the two calendar standards, which adds 5×8 Mon–Fri (set as the default) and 4×10 Mon–Thu. Edit or retire them afterwards.
- Capture one from a project. In a project's calendar editor (Tools ▾ → Calendars…, then open a calendar), Save as a calendar standard… opens the New calendar standard screen. Name it (1 to 60 characters), tick what to keep, and Save; the project you captured it from doesn't change.
- Add one by name. A company admin can also type a name in the Calendar standards dialog, press Add, and then Edit… the new standard.
The New calendar standard screen sorts the calendar's entries into two lists, so the company keeps only its standing pattern and not that project's own dates:
- Repeats every year — annual holidays and recurring shutdowns, ticked to begin with;
- Specific dates — one-off holidays and working exceptions, unticked to begin with, with Select all and Clear. Tick one only if the company really repeats it.
Managing standards
The Calendar standards dialog lists every standard, active ones first. On an active one: Edit… (opens the calendar editor on the standard itself), Set as default and Retire. A retired standard shows Restore. Editing or retiring a standard never changes a project that already used it. The default can't be retired — set another standard as the default first.
Adopting a standard in an existing project
An existing project can take on the company's default standard from its Project settings. The Apply company defaults row says what differs — for example Calendar differs from the default's name — and its Apply… button opens a confirmation that names what will change: how many tasks will move, and whether hours per day changes (durations entered in hours are then recalculated). The same confirmation can add or update the company's default colors, and set the company name.
Adopting is a whole-calendar replace, never a merge. The project's holidays, working exceptions and shutdown periods are replaced by the standard's; the project's other calendars are not changed; and it is one undo step. When nothing differs, the row reads "Already up to date."
Who can use it
- Anyone with an Editor or Admin role can add a standard, including capturing one from a project.
- Managing standards — editing, setting the default, retiring and restoring — is for company admins.
Good to know
- A company can keep up to 50 calendar standards, retired ones included. Past that, adding one is refused: "The calendar standard list is full (50)".
- Names are 1 to 60 characters, and a name that matches an active one apart from capitals or spacing is refused: "That calendar standard is already on the list".
- Save as a calendar standard… is not offered on the calendars step of the New project dialog — create the project first.
