Copy, paste and fill

Copy and paste tasks with their links, paste a block from Excel, paste it as new tasks, and fill a series down with the fill handle.

The grid's clipboard works the way Excel does, so what you already do in a spreadsheet works here too.

Where to find it

In the editor's grid: the usual keys, or right-click a row for Copy, Cut, Paste and Paste as new tasks.

Copying and pasting tasks

Select rows and press Ctrl+C, Ctrl+X or Ctrl+V. Tasks you copy inside Ganttry paste below the selected row, at its outline level. Links between the copied tasks are kept and point to the new copies; links to tasks outside the copied set are dropped. This works across projects and browser tabs.

Every copy also lands on your computer's clipboard as a plain table, ready to paste into Excel or an email.

Pasting from Excel

A block copied from Excel lands cell by cell, starting at the active cell — columns map across the grid from that column, rows walk down, and the block overwrites what is there. Click the cell in the column where the block should start — say your Biditem Number column — and the copied columns fill across from there.

Rows that run past the bottom of the project become new tasks. Blank cells and values that can't be read skip their target instead of clearing it. The whole paste is one Ctrl+Z.

Paste as new tasks

Right-click → Paste as new tasks adds the block as new rows below the selection instead of overwriting, with the same column mapping.

The fill handle

The small square on the active cell drags down, as in Excel. Select cells holding 1 and 2 and drag to get 3, 4, 5. "Area 01" continues as Area 02, Area 03 — even from a single cell. A single plain number or text value repeats. It works in any column you can edit.
