Run the day from the handout or the Day plan
Start each day from the Day plan on a tablet or phone, or from the printed crew handout, and print your own week or the master sheet.
By the end of this workflow the foreman knows what every crew is doing today, on which project, with whom, and has it on paper for when the signal drops.
Who does this
- Foremen and crew leads with a Field account use the Day plan.
- Crew members with only a link use their crew link or itinerary, and the handout printed from it.
- Project managers use the Day plan too, and print the handouts and the master sheet for the crews.
Before you start
- You can sign in to Ganttry, or someone has sent you a crew link or an itinerary (see Send crews their links and itineraries).
- The plan is published, if the project is in Draft. The Day plan and every crew link show the plan crews were given, not a planner's work in progress (see Publish the plan crews see).
Steps
On a tablet
- Open the Day plan. On My tasks (see Work, My tasks and Calendar), press Day plan, or Day plan → under the TODAY card, which previews today and the Day plan's next day. It shows your work day by day on every project you are on; a task you are booked on for only some of its days shows on those days alone. On a tablet it opens on the whole week.
- Choose whose work. Mine shows your own tasks. Everyone shows every task on the projects you have work on that day, with a You pill on yours.
- Read the day. Each project's day lists its tasks with their crews, equipment and tools, and its ON SITE notes: the notes the office ticked for crews. A task's crew line names the people booked that day. Day narrows it to one day; the arrows and Today move through the week.
- Get the latest. The Day plan doesn't update on its own. Press Refresh to read the plan again, for example after the office calls to say they have published a change.
- Print your week. Print my week makes a PDF of your own week, the days with a crew note included, as the Day plan shows them.
On a phone
- The same Day plan opens on one day at a time, with a strip of the week's days to jump between. Everything else works the same.
From a crew link and its handout
- Open the link. A crew link opens on today, in the same layout: the week strip, Today, Day and Week, and Refresh.
- Print the crew handout. At the foot of the crew link, press Print crew handout. It prints the week on screen, cut to what the link shows, each task with the people booked that day and its tools. When the week has more than one trade, choose Whole crew or one trade before printing, for example Laborer only. An itinerary link prints the person's week with Print itinerary.
For the office: the master sheet
- A planner with master planning prints the projects open in the master plan, the ones the Group filter shows: Print ▾ there offers every week the window touches, a day sheet for today and one for the day after, and Choose days…. The week sheet lists projects against Monday to Sunday with the names on each day, and shows a person booked on two projects that day in amber; a day sheet lists each project's work, crew, equipment, that day's tools and day notes. When a project is in Draft, choose What crews see or Latest plan (Draft).
- People has the same Print ▾ menu, its sheets titled People; its day sheets cover the projects with a named booking that day. Company admins also get Itineraries for the people shown…: a week's sheet for each person, in one PDF.
Good to know
- Every printed page carries the header, the date and time it was printed, and the footer The plan may have changed since this was printed., with page numbers. Each project on it names its site address, or says Site address not entered.
- A Draft project. The Day plan shows crews the published plan. A planner looking at it sees one extra line under that project: crews see the plan published at a given time, and the planner's latest saves are not in it.
- Days off. A weekend or other non-working day with no work is skipped, unless a note is dated that day; then it opens like any other day, with its note.
- Kept on a project. When a planner keeps you on a project between tasks (a stay, made on People), on a working day with no task for you anywhere your Day plan and itinerary show that project, its address and a line such as On Bridge 12 · no task, on screen and on paper. A stay reaches you without a publish.
- A connection is needed. Every field page says Needs a connection — the printed sheet is your backup. Print the week before you head to a site with no signal. If the signal stalls, the Day plan stops waiting after 30 seconds, keeps what it showed, and says it could not refresh.
- Reporting progress. To mark tasks done from the site, see Report progress from a phone or tablet.
