Report progress from a phone or tablet

From a phone or tablet, find your tasks in My tasks, then record status, percent complete, remaining days, checklist ticks and links from the site.

By the end of this workflow the office sees, as soon as you save it, what got done on site today: which tasks started, how far along they are, what is blocked.

Who does this

Foremen and crew leads with a Field account, and any Editor or Admin working from the site. A Field account reports progress but never changes the schedule itself. See Who can see and do what.

Before you start

  • You have a Ganttry account and you are assigned to tasks (see Your account). A crew member with only a link can see the plan but not report progress.
  • Put Ganttry on your home screen. On a phone or tablet, the work pages offer to install Ganttry as an app. On Android it installs like any app; on an iPhone or iPad the pages show how to add it to the Home Screen (see On phones and tablets). The installed app opens on My tasks (see Work, My tasks and Calendar).

Steps

On a tablet

  1. Open My tasks. A Field account lands there when it signs in. It lists your assignments across every project you can see. Group them by Project or Due date, filter with Status ▾, and press Hide done to clear finished work away.
  2. Check today and tomorrow. The TODAY card at the top of the side pane previews your Day plan: for today and the next day (on a Friday, usually Monday), each project you work, its notes for crews and the tasks you are booked on, with that day's crew and equipment. Tap a task to open it; Day plan → opens the whole plan.
  1. Open a task. Tap it. Its project's Work page opens with the task selected and its details in the side pane.
  2. Set the status. Under Status, choose To do, In progress, Blocked or Done. Done sets 100%. Starting a task stamps its actual start with today's date.
  3. Enter the numbers. Type % complete, and Remaining (days) if you know how much is left.
  4. Tick the checklist and add links. Tick items under Checklist as they are done. To attach a photo album, a drawing or a report, paste its link, give it a Label (optional), and press Add.
  1. Or work the whole project. The project's Work tab shows every task, grouped by phase. Table and Board switch views; on the board, drag a card to another status column. Mine shows only your tasks.

On a phone

  1. The same pages, one hand: the bar at the bottom of the screen switches between My tasks, Work and Calendar. A task opens as a sheet from the bottom. The board shows one status column at a time with the next peeking in; swipe between them, or use a card's ⋮ menu to change its status without dragging.

Good to know

  • Saves go straight in. Each change saves on its own, and every open copy of the page updates. On a project in Draft, your progress still reaches the plan crews see at once.
  • Who's on the task. A task with crew or equipment shows a Resources section with who is filling each line, counted by the day: someone booked on only some of the task's days carries a chip naming those days. A Field account sees it read-only; an Editor or Admin can assign people and machines from there for the whole task, and Change days on People → opens People to book by the day (not on a student's copy or a class board in Training).
  • Tools. Under Resources, Tools needed lists what the crew should bring. A Field account reads it; an Editor or Admin adds and removes tools there.
  • Old dates. My tasks and Calendar read a list the app refreshes as projects are opened and saved. A project nobody has opened since its last save shows an Old dates hint rather than stale dates; tap it to read why.
  • No signal. If the connection stalls, My tasks, the Calendar and the Day plan stop waiting after 30 seconds and say they couldn't load, rather than spin. Try again when you have a signal.
  • The calendar. Calendar lays your projects on a month or week grid; on a phone it becomes a day-by-day list.
  • Printing. Work and My tasks have no print layout. Calendar has no Print button, but it prints cleanly with your browser's print command, and the Day plan prints your week (see Run the day from the handout or the Day plan).
  • What a Field account can't do. It can't open the editor, Projects, Reports, People or Roster & equipment, and it never sees costs.
