Colors and text

Style rows with bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, text color and size, and tint tasks with named color tags that carry into the Gantt, PDFs and Excel.

You can style the text of any row and give tasks named color tags — "Concrete", "Sub: electrical" — so the schedule reads at a glance. The styling shows the same on screen, on the Gantt and in what you print or export.

Where to find it

Select one or more rows, then open Format ▾ on the toolbar, or right-click → Color & text….

Text styles

Format ▾ toggles Bold, Italic, Underline and Strikethrough on the selected rows; Ctrl+B, Ctrl+I and Ctrl+U do the first three. If every selected row already has the style, the toggle turns it off.

Color & text… adds a text color and a size — Small, Normal or Large — and Default resets a row's text style.

Styles apply in the grid, on the Gantt's bar labels, and in PDF and Excel output alike. Strikethrough is handy for showing work that has been taken out of scope without deleting it.

Color tags

The same dialog creates named color tags and applies them to the selection: pick a color, type a name, and press Add & apply. Click a tag to apply it, use ✎ to rename or recolor it, and ✕ to delete it (the tasks lose it). Remove color clears the tag from the selected tasks.

A tagged row:

  • tints the whole grid row, with a stripe at its edge (the blue of a selection still shows over it);
  • colors its bar, milestone or summary on the Gantt and in PDFs, with the tag names listed in the key;
  • tints its row in Excel exports.

Renaming or recoloring a tag restyles every task wearing it. While the Critical highlight is on, critical-path red wins over tag colors.

How it prints

  • In the PDF dialog, Task colors turns the tag colors on the bars on or off, and Color table rows by task color washes each table row with its tag's color — in table-only prints too, where the key then lists the tag names. See Print and export.
  • Filters can pick tasks by color tag, or tasks with no tag — see Filters, saved views and the 3-week lookahead.

Who can use it

Admins and Editors, in the editor. See Who can see and do what.

Good to know

  • Color tags belong to the project. A company can set standard color tags that new projects start with — see Creating a project.
  • Format ▾ also holds Header row — see Editing in the grid.
